Frequently Asked Questions

I'm a startup! Do you have anything for us?

Absolutely! We know money can be tight in the early days, and we want to help you keep the focus on releasing new features, not fighting a rigid plan. Email us at, and we’ll help you find a plan that fits your elasticity, instance count, growth, or anything else.

What's a service instance?

A service instance is a unique IP + port combination that Houston is configured to send traffic to. This generally maps to the number of nodes you’re running, or the number of containers, depending on your architecture.

Houston can collect all the service instances in your environment. You won’t be charged for anything that’s unroutable based on your rules.

I want more than 30 days of data retention.

That’s not really a question, but it’s certainly something we can accomodate. Drop us an email at to learn more about how you can get data retention for up to a year.

Can I pay month-to-month or buy fewer than the minimum instance count?

Of course! If you need the flexibility or don't want to pay up front, contact us and we'll set up a plan for you. We're always happy to create plans that work for smaller environments or shorter-lived project.

Do you have volume discounts?

Yes! Discounts kick in at 1,000 service instances, and we’re happy to design a custom plan for you with 10,000+ instances. Get in touch and we’ll help you out.

Do you have pre-payment discounts?

We do. All plans are based on pre-paid annual contracts. If you’d like to sign up for longer, contact our sales team.
